OOOOBY box launch & Streetfeast this Saturday

Street Feast at OOOOBY

This Saturday, 16th June, come to the OOOOBY Store and celebrate Street Feast from 12:30-3pm (FREE).  Street Feasts will be held all over Ireland to celebrate community and encourage neighbours to come out and mingle, share some food and have some fun.  Fearghus Ó Murchú (formerly chef to Zig and Zag!) will be on hand to demonstrate how to make a delicious vegetable soup, free samples!  Everyone is invited to come along, and if you can, please bring some food to share as part of the Street Feast.  FAMILIES WELCOME!  Please post our OOOOBY Streetfeast Flyer on your notice board or send to friends.

Food Box Launch

We will also be launching the 2012 OOOOBY local vegetable box scheme the same day, full details will be available on how to receive a box of fresh local, chemical-free veg every week, and we'll be taking memberships on the day.  We've expanded this year but there are still a limited number so if you're interested please sign up soon.  The first boxes will be available 23rd June, and for the first time we are offering delivery of the box, along with other extras such as local fresh eggs, honey, and bulk whole foods (organic rice, flour, tinned tomatoes, etc) into local towns & villages (Glenealy, Rathdrum, Rathnew and Wicklow Town).

GIY Meeting

If you're interested in gardening, from beginner to more experienced, and want to meet and share knowledge with like-minded people, the monthly GIY (Grow It Yourself) meeting is also on this Saturday from 1-2pm.  FREE.

Volunteer Days at Carraig Dulra organic & Permaculture Farm

The volunteer days have gotten more popular and there's more varied work up at the farm, and always good fun and a lovely fresh "pot luck" lunch.  Every Thursday at Carraig Dulra, from about 10 until early afternoon.

Small holder course

Our first smallholder course, taught with the combined horticultural skills of Suzie Cahn, and the farm management and animal experience of Lily DeSylva (former farm manager at Cloughjordan Community Farm and founder of the Irish Smallholding Association).  At Carraig Dulra farm on 23rd June.  Only €50.  For more information or to book see the listing on the Rural Skills Ireland site

Permaculture Skills Exchange completed

The group received their certs and shared some of their dreams for Permaculture-inspired projects in the future. It's been a lot of fun and we wish everybody well, but hope to see them back visiting before too long.

Thank you!

The community around Carraig Dúlra and the OOOOBY Store is fantastic.  We are so grateful to people for generously sharing their skills, enthusiasm and energy.  A few people "behind the scenes" are:  Kerry, who volunteers once a week to do our bookkeeping, Stephen, who is now working at the OOOOBY every weekday afternoon through the  TUS programme, and Pat, who has been contributing in many ways almost every week.  Lots happens at the farm thanks to the WWOOFers and "resident community" and to others who have given their time at the farm or OOOOBY when they can, thank you all!
