Grim reaping:- organic pace or just slow!

We were both getting frustrated at not getting up to work on the land enough during all the mild weather these last two months. We have done so much work behind the scenes: making plans, contacts and setting up courses etc. The phrase letting things develop organically means you can't force things on, but it is hard to be patient at this stage of a project. I have been fishing; trawling publications, the internet and peoples experience and learning lots: grants, networks, woodland schemes. . .

So on Sunday the weather was gloreous, a warm autumn day. The bracken is dying back. It was time to get at it. I started strimming the area that will be the forest garden to see where we can plant the apple trees on our December Course. The boys helped gather it for mulch, but ended up in the pile of bracken. Mike came and did some too. I wonder about speed and pace because I didn't much like the petrol strimmer, efficent and easy to use, but it cut me off from everything around me as we worked. I'm going looking for a scythe which I think won't slow things down too much, and perhaps will be a more organic and enjoyable pace. I'll let you know...
